The choir performing in
Trinity Hall, Aberdeen on 31 May 2006
Welcome...
Sing Aberdeen
The milestone 50th season of the Aberdeen Orpheus Choir
was celebrated in
May 2005 at a Civic Reception held by
Aberdeen City Council, attended by present
and past choir members from across the
decades. Photographs of this memorable
occasion can be found in the Gallery.
When the choir was founded its aim was to provide a selection of music that would appeal to all tastes. The choir's name reflected the ever-popular Glasgow Orpheus Choir, whose special choral qualities of
fine diction and blend of tone it was to emulate. The choir has maintained that aim for an unbroken period ever since that time.
The choir sings in a variety of venues, which have included cathedrals in Edinburgh, Dunblane, Dunkeld, Inverness, Dundee and Aberdeen, as well as churches and halls in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. In recent
years it has been invited by the National Trust for Scotland to sing a series of very popular Christmas concerts in the Great Hall of Castle Fraser.
